About the school

Do you dream of creating stories that are shown on big screens or staged?

NSKI delights in being a safe and creative home, both for current and former students. As a small school, with a central location in Oslo, the script students are taught by skilled teachers with a focus on practical work and with close follow-up.

Screenwriters are among the most sought after in the Norwegian film industry. NSKI is proud to be the only school in Norway that offers an education in stage text, where students get the chance to immerse themselves in either stage text or cinematic text. Here, students learn to build multidimensional, interesting stories through improvisation, text analysis and storytelling.

As a student

At NSKI, students receive a combination of theoretical subjects and practical teaching. We focus on giving the students a lot of writing practice, so they can find their voice and way of writing, while at the same time becoming confident in the subject.

The focus on practical teaching and writing helps to strengthen students to expand their creativity and exercise their writing muscle. Students learn to create unique narratives through different points of view and with dynamic dialogue that flows off the pages, both in theater scripts and film and TV. This is done through close collaboration with the acting and directing students, classes in pitching and production, and visits by guest teachers and other professionals in the industry.

In addition, the students receive instruction in acting. As writers, we feel that this strengthens the students' understanding of texts, analysis and scene construction, as well as giving an insight into different parts of film and theater production.

Unique experiences

At NSKI, we do everything we can to prepare students to tackle the industry. Among other things, we have several guest teachers, casting directors and other industry professionals who come to teach the students how to best find a job after education. We also offer teaching that prepares students to pitch and sell scripts to producers and theater managers, so that they are best equipped to tackle the film, theater and TV industry.

Due to NSKI's special educational offers, the screenwriting students get a completely unique opportunity to see their own scenes and stories performed by the acting students, both during and outside school hours. This gives them the opportunity to visualize their scripts and work on creating good dialogue. This collaboration also gives the students the opportunity to participate in improvisation classes and write texts based on improvised scenes.

Everyday life

As a scriptwriting student, you mainly work from 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday. In the morning we work with subjects such as character development, genre theory, dramaturgy, text analysis and history. In the afternoon, the students get the chance to develop their own scripts in project work, which varies between theater scripts, film and TV.

In the third year, students get to participate in an internship period, where they get to work with professionals in a film, TV or theater production. By the time the students graduate from NSKI, they must have completed a script, a treatment or a storyline that they can take to theater managers and producers. This helps to give the students an advantage when they enter the industry as a writer and scriptwriter.
